I tried the external drive on my bride's macbook pro 15 and it works with no problem, so I know that drive works. The report that was displayed in Disk Utility after I had run Repair Permissions indicated some corrected permissions in iTunes, so that raised my hopes. Now... In there on the left I dragged a random language on the list above English, and then after that I dragged English back to the top again and restarted the computer. That means: being so thin, with so many mechanical parts, they are very prone to fail sooner or later.

Don't know about the Apple Geniuses in the genuine Apple Stores (not available in my area), but apparently the PB G4's display replacement seems to be one of the biggest nightmares I am not a tech wizard and have never done anything more complicated than add some memory. How do you do this? Usually they're data discs as my old man insists on sending me movies as AVI files. I don't see the point of checking something that almost always has something to fix. What I will say is that the DVD drive is not protected very well at all.
