If I click "Show all in finder" it comes up blank. I don't know what caused it but symptom #1(Spotlight menu icon highlights, but no search form appears) has occured to me a few times. Thank you for helping us maintain CNET's great community. And spotlight doesn't work either.

Thank you! However apart from the idiocy of restarting unwanted programs spotlight will now only return Office documents! In Terminal (applications>utilities>terminal) Make sure spotlight is enabled. 2 things to do: sudo nano /etc/hostconfig Make sure you have SPOTLIGHT=-YES- in there…..and not SPOTLIGHT=-NO- then sudo mdutil -i on / That Ian Reply John F.
